Contradiction is the heart and soul of character and drama. You’re always looking for it. I loved her so much I hit her; that’s character. I loved her so much I hit her again; that’s even more character.

I figured should make a quick post to explain myself and my goals before I get too deep into this. I am not a critic, and this is not a film criticism blog. My goal here is to write about films in hopes I can glean useful information and implement it in future creations. In a way, I suppose this is my attempt at an independent study version of film school.

I’m going to try my best to focus on the positives over the negatives. Not out of some belief that talking badly about art is wrong, I just think focusing on the positive is more productive. Cynicism and negativity often feel like the paths of least resistance. There is certainly no shortage of places online where you can get cynical and snarky film takes. I’m sure I’ll indulge in negativity occasionally, but I plan to just not discuss movies I don’t enjoy and to highlight the good more than the bad.

Anyway, I haven’t got a set structure for this. My goal is one post a week, but it’s not going to be the same format every week. Maybe I’ll try video essays eventually but right now I just want to write. I’ve got a scene breakdown that will be up soon. I’m also planning on sharing some film essays. I’m happy to take requests on topics, formats, etc.
